My Spiritual Cry

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (Psalms 18:2) In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. (Psalms 18:6) Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? (Psalms 43:1-2) Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. (Psalms 42:5) In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. (Psalms 31:1)

Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man. For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off?
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, whole they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? (Psalms 42:2-3)

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. (Psalms 28:7) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalms 23:4)

I said, Lord be merciful unto me: heal my soul: for I have sinned against thee. (Psalms 41:4) If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: (Psalms 66:18) Truly my soul waited upon God: from him cometh my salvation. (Psalms 62:1) The Lord redeemed the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. (Psalms 34:22)

Save me, O God, by thy name and judge me by thy strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Se’lah. (Psalms 54:1-3) Hear my cry, O God: attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. (Psalms 61:1-3)

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalms 34:4)Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Se’lah. (Psalms 62:8) It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes. (Psalms 118:8-9)

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. (Proverbs 30:11-14) A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8) …and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel 12:1-2)

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. (Psalms 33:6) Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually. (Hosea 12:6) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8)And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. (Matthew 24:4) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matthew 24:24)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. (Psalm 85:8) Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. (Psalms 86:3) In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me. (Psalms 86:7) For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. (Psalms 86:10) For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. (Psalms 86:5)

I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. (Psalms 142:2) Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (Matthew 6:25) Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:34) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

This article was inspired from a friend who gave me some sound advice. She said that when you are having a bad day and it felt that you couldn’t hear God, sit with your bible and let the Holy Spirit fill you through scripture.
So, I did. I took some time to flip through the pages of my bible reading everything I had ever underlined or highlighted. By the time I had flipped through a couple of chapters, I started to see a pattern arise. A message to me to lean on God when times seem tough and I felt alone in my daily battle. I want to thank this friend for her advice and pass it on to others. For anyone that would like to read some of her work, just click here. To my other friends whom have helped me along the way...thank you! Hubpages has become an extended wonderful family.

Your introductory scripture is my email signature . It appears at the bottom of all of my e-mail. I have never had anyone say that they were offended by it, but I have had people say they saw it....and that it helped.(The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower)

I even put this scripture to music and taught it to my children before some of them were even in school. It also goes on to say, i will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised. (SOOOOOOOoooooooooo WORTHY!!!!!!)

I wanted to come and comment earlier, but things did not allow it, but here I am now...

It is just amazing how the scriptures can tell one story with one person and a whole different story with another person, yet it is the same bible..

I was so pleased to hear you say that all your highlighted verses form a pattern..I've been telling that to people, but you were the first to acknowledge that...

May God bless you abundantly and cover you with His wonderful Love..Amen :)

Thank you Marliza. I don't think I would have tried this if is wasn't for some words of encouragement I had recieved from you. In most of my writings, I have left out scripture unless someone wanted to find it later on. In the future I will probly use more. I didn't realize how many scriptures I had underlined or highlighted until this challenge.

Lately, it seems I have been doing more reading then writing. The latest inspirational book I have been reading is by Max Lucado. He has some wonderful words of wisdom. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a pick-me-up.

Thank you again...May God bless you in the works you are doing and I will continue to lift you in prayer. :)

I believe Psalms 118:8-9 and 2 Timothy 4:3-4 go together. Although your intent with this hub was probably different than the way I read it, those two verses give me a great comfort, that what I am seeing around me, especially with the 20 year olds (and older), is very wrong. They think they're pure, but they are dirty. Powerful words of truth.

Thanks for this.

Thanks Alexander,

Thanks for the suggestion. It effects everyone differently when they read it. I agree with you on the younger generation thinking they are pure but are dirty. It seems they are being deceived every way they turn. I remember a time when the word sex was tabboo. Now it is plastered all over the tv in so many ways, what is a child to think?

I remember when the church was there for the congregation, now...Now it is all about popularity, money and power. The truth is being watered down and muddied.

I struggle everyday in my walk with faith and God. It seems that negativity is just lerking in the shadows waiting to pounce when one isn't prepared. I couldn't help but chuckle when the other night my hubby told me he thought God was testing him. Of course God is, it makes us a stronger person in our walk with him if we trust him.

Thanks again!

Wonderful! Think I will bookmark your page so I can catch it occasionally when I am online.

I agree our daily spiritual walk is often more struggle than fun...but remember with me, that then is when we are practicing our faith...hope...experience...and maturity.

Joy comes in tiny pieces sometimes...but it comes!

Thank you for sharing this strengthening Truth!

Thank you frogyfish,

I have made it a habit now to highlight or underline scriptures as I do my bible studies. I have found that often times when I go back to reread them they can tell a story or inspire me. I agree that sometimes our spiritual walk is more difficult than fun, but do not plan on putting God on a shelf again. Thank you again for your wonderful comment and encouragement.
