Day Five of my 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge

I was surfing through HP forums and thought…hmm…I wonder what it would be like to have live chat on HP?

I think it would be a handy gadget to have, each forum with its own live chat. But, I bet it would be mass chaos. Spam messages everywhere.

It could be set up like FB with tons of boxes popping up, or like ICQ where you meet people then speed read like a mad man.

What are the chances of HP making a live chat? I know I would use it. Especially for those nights I was getting ready to post and had a major crash of the system. (Like the times I couldn’t edit or link.) Or looking for helpful tips to improve my hubs. There would be so many benefits to having live chat. (The people you meet, topics to talk about, endless info.) I am such an addict now, that this fine tool would be tantalizing addition to my addiction.

But for every upside to live chat there is the haunting downside. Gamers are plagued by this. It is the newbie striving for acceptance and understanding. (I am still such an annoying newbie!) That may be hard for some to overcome, but it is the price to pay for such a feature. I think the benefits would far outweigh the downfall.

I for one know that my husband would love to have live chat on HP, so I would quit bugging him with lame questions. (Hey, I can’t help it if they use words I don’t get. I felt I had to re-learn the alphabet just to understand an URL and other computer terms.) I have had a few lame questions, but listed below are 10 of a few priceless ones.

I can hear the remarks now…

1. “Honey, I can’t send an email. It says it is rejected.”

2. “Honey, I downloaded this icon thing thinking it was this one program but it is something entirely different, how do I get rid of it?”

3. “Honey, the computer is making funny noises and smoke is coming out of the back. Do you think something is wrong?”

4. “Honey, you said that this cord was seven feet long, but I can only get it to reach seven inches.” (His response would but to un-tie the twist tie from around the cord.)

5. “Honey, somehow I have managed to duplicate my icons on my desktop. How do I get rid of them?”

6. “Honey, what do the initials IE stand for?”

7. “Honey, if it tells me to insert a URL what does that mean?”

8. “Honey, is Firefox a new hunting website?”

9. “Honey, do you think my six plug-in extension cord is enough for my seven cords to plug into the wall?”

10. “That’s it I quit! My computer won’t stop restarting.” (The husband’s response would be…Honey, quit kicking the power cord.

Oh yea, there would be so many benefits to live chat on HP. (It would also give those that love to complain another forum to do it in, with a quicker response time.) Tell me what you think about live chat! I would love to hear from you.

What do you think?

Would you use HubPages live chat if it were available?

  • Yes, I would use HubPages live chat.

I think your husband may actually be a saint!

I loved this.. especially number 4. I'm with ya, shug. Sometimes you just need an objective eye to figure out these complicated matters!

Voted up, and funny!

Thanks again Sueroy,

I will pass the message on to him. I have to give the credit of #4 to my brother-in-law. He was once told this. Cracked me up.

Thanks Bob,

I am all for it! It would make my life so much easier for understanding some things. I can make things more complicated than what they need to be.

I learned more from people in the forums than I learned anywhere previous. It would have been faster with live chat. I do see the downside though. I think they want us to concentrate on our writing once we learn the basics. They also have some control over what stays in a forum post where they would have no control in a live chat situation. Live chat can be a nuisance when a person is trying to "write a hub in 30 minutes" or just when your concentrating on getting one online. I actually do all my hub writing offline and post them once they are completed. I often edit and wouldn't want to be interrupted any more than I am with what is happening in the "office" behind me.

I do believe I would use the live chat if it was available though. I have friends here I don't get to talk to as often as I would like and live chat would make it easier.

Thanks Wheelinallover,

I have learned a lot too through the forums. I think the only time I would have used live chat was when I had a problem. Like you, I often write my stuff offline. That way, I can crawl into my corner and not be interupted.

Once HP started this live feed for a home page, I have had a hard time adjusting to it. I didn't like the idea that I couldn't find people's older hubs without browsing their profile. It does have its benefits, but just takes a little getting use to.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I need to get to your neck of the woods and get caught up reading.
