Why I am a Christian Part 1

There is so much controversy these days behind being a Christian and what it means. I don’t want to break it down into a dictionary point of view or lecture someone. For some reason I find this facinating. Call me crazy, but I am finding it interesting to visit other peoples perspectives about this subject. I have been reading more hubs lately than writing them and have come across many interesting hubs that have been helpful.

The most intriguing have been questions from one Christian directed to other Christians. The responses to some of these questions have caused quite a stir among the non-Christian community. I have struggled for days on what to say in a hub like this, but I just want to post my thoughts and feelings on this issue.

I can’t help but wonder if people forget that Christians are just people too. We all sin! No matter if you are a Christian or not, sin is a given. The downfall of Christians is that people are waiting for a Christian to fall so they can prey on them. It is far easier to point the finger, than it is to look at oneself. (Some will disagree with this, but if you read their posts, you will see the anger coming out in them.)

For me, (and I mean me personally) it is about accepting Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior and not about what church I am attending at the moment. I am an offensive person because I have come to a point in my life where I question a lot. My mother once told me I test the faith of others by asking so many “normal” questions, but they are questions that make fellow Christians squirm.

For instance, I was once asked how could I take for granted what I read in the bible? According to the person’s point of view, man wrote the bible. How is one to know for sure that it was from God and not man’s interpretation of what he wanted to write? Isn’t religion all about control and power?

Hmm, interesting questions!

I had to ponder my answer for a minute. Some people can whip out an answer in a second.

I had to stop and think because I knew that my answer would be dissected, analyzed, and another question would follow. I had to be true to myself.

There are many different interpretations of the bible. How does a person know which one is correct?

For me, it is the King James Bible.

Why?

I grew up with a Baptist background, but as I have said before, I had put God on a shelf for about 15 years. As a child if someone told me something from out of the bible, I took it for granted. As an adult, I started to research it. One day I was surfing thru some literature and came across a Chick Track that I had read as a child. (For those that are wondering what a Chick Track is see my hub- Have you read a Chick Track lately?) On the back of the track was a website for them. I looked it up and one of the topics was about what bible to read.

Did you know that some of the newer bibles have taken scripture so far out of context that it lost its meaning?

Or that in some places the whole verse is missing?

Or that a man named AC Grayling wrote his own bible?

I found this intreguing. I guess you could say that I am easily entertained. Here is a test that I did. I had eight different kinds of bibles to do this test with. I took a King James Bible and look up Acts 8:37, then I tested the theory with the other newer translations and looked up Acts 8:37.

In the newer translations, the verse is missing. This I found tweaked my curiosity further. Therefore, I started to poke around more. In the bible, God warns us not to mess with his word, Proverbs 30:6 and Revelations 22:18-19, are just a few of those warnings. It was definitely an attention-grabber to see where the bible had been changed. So, the next question I had to ask myself was why ?

Satan!

If Satan could debunk the word of God then he could deceive people into being as sheep led to a slaughter.

I mean...come on...Who is going to take the time to search it out? This was enough for me to rely on the King James Bible.
